I stumbled upon Passage to India coincidentally, on a working trip to Lawrenceville. I went for the "Chaat Buffet" on Wednesday night and food was great! The pani-puri, pav bhaji, dosa and dahi-wadas are mouth watering. While I've eaten at better places in NYC, this place is more than money's worth. Check it out :-) |

While Passage to India is the best Indian restaurant in the Princeton area, it comes up short when compared to the best in the NYC metro area. The vegetarian and chicken choices are all decent, but I recommend to avoid the fish-based meals because the fish does not seem that fresh. The staff is friendly and gracious. |

I note that this is a higly rated restaurant [Zagat Survey, New York Times], but I was a little disappointed after such high expectations. The vegetable combo appetizer was a little greasy and bland, and rather than diverse vegetables in the Pakora, it was mostly eggplant. The tandoori shrimp were huge [must be U10 or larger] and 5 were served, but the flavors did not blend so well with the large shrimp. Furthermore, such large shrimp tend to be a little tough, which was the case this time. The basmati rice tasted OK but it did not seem very fresh. A yellow lentil dal I ordered was a bit thin in consistency. The Raita was great. I went Sunday night just after New Years, maybe that is a bad time but I was disappointed after all the buildup. |
