I've tried most of the Indian restaurants in the St. Louis area and I feel House of India is among the best. The atmosphere is comfortable. I always prefer good food to perfect decor and atmosphere.
The lunch buffet is great, always hot, and has food for the vegetarian and the omnivore. You'll find salad, fruit, meats, veggies in wonderful sauces, bread, and dessert.
The wait for dinner is a little longer than I like but the food is always served hot and wonderful. Beware of spice indexes in Indian restaurants: mild is spicy, medium is hot, and hot is quite spicy (really effective on the sinuses). I only had one less than great meal here and that was a somewhat mild and watery Korma; usually it's very creamy. The dishes don't taste similar to each other as they do at some other places.
Never go to an Indian restaurant hoping for the extroverted, over-friendliness of the average TGIF restaurant waiter. All of the wait-staff here are efficient, courteous, and helpful. Some are introverted or quiet but none are rude or abrupt. |
