Temptations specializes in both northern and southern Indian cuisine, and offers an Indo-Chinese menu as well. Vegetarian options are available.
Meals are priced in the mid-to-upper range for area Indian restaurants, with dinner for two including appetizer and (non-alcoholic) beverages typically running $28-40. A popular lunch buffet is offered every day of the week.
Temptations is located in the end unit of a strip mall a few hundred feet north of Washtenaw Avenue. The decoration is sparse, but the dining room and bathrooms are impeccably neat and clean.
Mon-Fri 11AM - 2:30PM 5:30PM - 9:30PM, Sat-Sun 11:30AM-3PM 5:30PM - 10PM

If you are not lured in by the smell of heady curry the site of the lunch time buffet will definitely bring you in.
The curries are not the sort you find in Gordon's Food Service canned curry spice. Temptations actually believes in subtle yet distinctive spice use.
The restaurant itself could be any cuisine if you look at the decor, but the food is all authentic and flavorful.
The staff are friendly and prompt, and the place is kept very clean. They DO need to change their musical selection once in a while though. I think I have the rotation memorized.
I am not a big meat eater but the curried goat is well worth a dive into the carnivore route for me.
This is not to say their vegetarian dishes are to be avoided. They make the most "mouth happy" Malai kofta. The fritters are not all breading and have a very flavorful sauce. |

My wife and I have been visiting Temptations weekly since the first week they opened.
The lunchtime buffet is becoming quite popular, featuring a variety of foods at different spice levels, with typically ten to twelve warm options and cold dessert (rice pudding, fruit, etc.). Despite being put out in quantity, the quality of the food on the buffet is maintained at a high level.
Of the area Indian restaurants, Temptations is the only one where I'd recommend the tandoori chicken- it's moist and flavorful, as opposed to the dried-out bird I've frequently had elsewhere.
The standard menu contains quite a broad variety of Indian standards, with tasty vindaloos and marsalas. The goat dishes are cooked with a particularly skilled hand, though the other meat and vegetarian dishes are noteworthy as well.
The attentiveness of the service varies a little depending on who is on duty, and whether the private dining room is being used, but is generally quite good. In fact, it is usually good enough that Temptations is one of the few places where I feel like tipping generously when having the buffet. |
