The food might be good, but the service leaves a lot to be desired May 11th, 2004
I paid a visit to the Ambassador on Sunday 9 May (Mother's Day) with two friends who are visiting from Scotland. The Ambassador's website claims that they offer a lunch buffet at weekends for $8.95, but on receiving our bill we discovered that we were to be charged $18.95 each. Not sure whether I had misread the website, I paid the bill and returned later after discovering that I was correct. I was brushed off by the staff who informed me that prices were increased on holidays such as Mother's Day, that the website was years old and that I would have to speak with the owner, who was apparently 'really nice' and would be available the following night. On my return, the manager repeated these excuses and said, after calling him, that the owner was not interested in speaking with me and would not come out from his office. I was told that I should have asked about the price (despite having looked at the website), and when I informed him that I had no idea there would be an extra cost as I am not from this country, his reply was "well, you know now." There was no indication whatsoever to me that there would be a price inflation, the price was written nowhere and it was never mentioned. The manager had no interest in doing anything to rectify the situation, even when I said I would not return if I was to be treated this way.

The food may be good, but I will not be returning as I refused to be treated in such a way. I hope others will think twice in future before visiting this restaurant.

Not great Indian Food Dec 3rd, 2003
If you are in Baltimore, stick with Mughal Garden or Akhbar. They are better, cheaper, and less stuck up. Also, they have more authentic indian food and better selection. The Ambassador is not a family place by any means (In my opinion, this is actually a good thing), but the waiters are stuck up and will often times look down on you for no reason.

I Strongly Recommend The Ambassador Dining Room Mar 15th, 2003
Just got back to DC from The Ambassador on Canterbury in Balto. and consider it a truly unique experience worth paying for.

Atmosphere is just wonderful...enhanced by the tuxed male waiters and female waiters in traditional dress. Overall treatment and service couldn't be better. My entree was very, very good and served with four side dishes on the plate which I find unusual for Indian restaurants.

They give you that nice Indian bread with sauce up front.

My bill for two was $55 (2003) including cocktails and one shared dessert.

One pointer. Enter through the front door of the Ambassador Apartment Building or if you use the side door dial the security phone built into the wall. The number is engraved on a plaque.

Happy dining

Glad It's Not a Family Friendly Restaurant Mar 26th, 2002
We've been looking for a place just like this to enjoy great food in a lovely, quiet setting - without having to be disturbed by loud children and their even louder parents. This is a place where civility, tranquility and great Indian food coalesce.

Are you kidding Me??? Mar 21st, 2002
This is the best Indian Restaurant that I have been to, bar none. The food is amazing, I have sampled most dishes and the all are great!
The setting is great, the outside courtyard is excellent! The service is excellent, so what is not to like?
No, this is not a "family restaurant", it is a little more upscale and a great place to enjoy a great meal.

The best meal I've had in Baltimore Jan 13th, 2002
This is the first Baltimore ethnic restaurant I have found that matches the elegance, warmth, service and amazing food that I used to find in Washington, DC. The staff are gracious, the food aromatic and delicious, and the setting lovely. As for the prior reviewer's complaint, I don't want to sit next to someone else's children (and no one belives their own are annoying, but they are), while enjoying an expensive intimate dinner, so this just puts the Ambassador even higher on my list.
