Wonderful Food, Service & Buffet Sep 20th, 2005
I love Tandoor. The buffet always has a nice variety of vegetarian and meat dishes, and everything is fresh and homemade. I especially like the baigan bharta and saag paneer, although they don't have these too often on the buffet. The restaurant is very clean, well-lit and cozy. The service is wonderful. I've never had an empty tea glass here. [Note about the tea: They have a wonderful Indian tea with cloves and spices, but if you don't request it specifically, they will usually give you plain old Lipton (which is still quite good, but not what I come here for).] I have ordered food from the menu for carry-out before, and the food was wonderful, but a little pricey. (Over twenty dollars for eggplant & spinach seems a bit high to me.) I like to have some variety, and feel it would be nice if they offered 1/2 portions, or combination dinner options at a reasonable price. Granted, Indian food is labor-intensive and isn't thrown together quickly, so the cost will reflect this. It is especially nice that they will allow you to get your buffet "to go" at lunch time. The garlic naan is fabulous, and the chutneys & relishes are very good.

Great restaurant Jun 10th, 2005
I have eaten at this restaurant several times...both buffet, and off the menu. I find it to be exceptionally good. Plenty of room in the restaurant, and it is nicely laid out.

The food is an excellent bargain!

As for the one negative rater, I don't understand what he's complaining about. Almost everyone I know who's eaten here loves it. I think he is overly critical.

Tandoor has the best Indian food in town. We go every Sunday and have introduced this wonderful restaurant to over 15 friends who now are devoted customers. The buffet is always excellent and the menu has a ton of offerings.

Contrary to the previous reviewer's experience, I love Tandoor. My co-worker and I have dined at Tandoor at least two dozen times in the past year. In fact, we're returning today. I have found the staff to be very friendly and courteous. The food is always fresh, tasty and a wide variety is served. The waiters may be a bit shy of us locals ... but, if you get to know them, they are very nice. I enjoy finding out about their homeland, culture, etc. As for the decor, on my second visit I invited a friend who is a world traveler and professor of geography. He actually recognized the deities in the murals, some of the symbols on the wall, etc.

But, back to the food. It's all good! The guys at the restaurant told us that the best time to come is before noon. We usually arrive at 11:15. We're going back today, and we'll be back again next week. ... As I like to say ... it's good country cookin' - just from another country! Hope to see a lot of people there soon!

Little change can make a big difference May 23rd, 2004
I am a big fan of Indian food and frequently eat in Indian places in town, as well as prepare a few easy dishes myself. After being completely disappointed at the lunch buffet in the two Indian places in downtown, I became brave enough to travel to Man o' War Boulevard to try the food in the new Indian joint called "Tandoor" Fine Indian Cuisine. My girlfriend and I were greeted with a smile and escorted to a booth by the host. Once seated, our server brought us water and never bothered to ask if we needed anything else besides water to drink. We approached the buffet, and I could not help but notice the surrounding decor, and to be honest, it looked more like a Chinese place than an Indian place. The hand-drawn paintings of kings on the walls (presumably Indian) looked more like Chinese kings, and the buffet tables also were as if they were left over from the previously-closed Chinese reasturant. Food on the steam tables looked good, so to begin with, I tried some chicken tikka masala (chili chicken with some poori) as my first serving, with basmati rice. My first disapointment was to find slices of bell peppers in chicken tikka masala. Though it's a most recommended dish in almost all Indian places, and almost everyone who relishes Indian cuisine knows about it, I have never seen or read in any cook book that chicken tikka masala has to be prepared with bell peppers. The chili chicken also lacked soy sauce and hot peppers; instead, it had some yellow base sauce that made it kind of sweet. On my next trip to the buffet, I tried some black lentils, and malai kofta with a couple of slices of naan bread. MY SECOND DISSAPOINTMENT WAS TO SEE MY SILVERWARE LEFT ON THE GLASS TOP BY THE SERVER WHEN HE REMOVED THE PLATES. I noticed that all the tables in the big hall didn't have place mats. Why?? I understand that all the tables are cleaned with some kind of chemical to sanitize, before new place mats are put on. For the very same reason we have a "CONCEPT OF PLACE MATS" TO PROTECT OUR SILVERWARE FROM THE CHEMICAL USED TO CLEAN TABLES. I had to wait quite a bit before I got the attention of a server (not ours), and asked for new silverware and got a look from him as if I were crazy. Anyway, the management needs to understand that there are people who notice things like that. Every restaurant is evaluated / rated based on service, food, quality, quantity, and ambiance. As my first experience was not very good, I will suggest a few things (in case someone from management reads this) that could make a difference:
1. Placemats on the tables.
2. Large water glasses to ease the pressure on servers during busy lunch hours.
3. A little less salt in the food (don't think that we smokers have lost our taste buds!).
4. Less use of whipping cream, as it makes all the food taste the same, and sweet.
5. Tell the servers to smile; it does not cost anything, plus, it helps them to earn more in tips.
6. Some kind of partition / screens / divisions in the big hall for a more cozy and personal atmosphere, because, as it is now, it looks more like a convention center.
7. And, please, make those kings on the wall look Indian!

Lastly, I wish the Tandoor success, and hope my next visit will be pleasant.
