A group of 12 picked this restaraunt for its social gathering. Here are thier Impressions:
* I kept it vegetarian and went with the Chana Masala with Basmati Rice and an appetizer of Vegetable Pakora. Chana Masala is a spicy dish often made with cayenne pepper, dried mango powder, garlic, and chick peas (garbanzo beans). This is one of my favorite dishes and Shahi Dawat did an excellent job with it, especially combined with generous portions of their perfect Basmati Rice. The Pakora appetizer was nice, but filled me up too much... not leaving room a lot of room for the masala. All told, the meal with the appetizer (which was large enough to share) came in at around $12 including a drink and plenty of rice. The restaurant is very nice and was very accommodating to our large group. The back room allowed for ample seating and was quiet enough to allow for conversation between our group's members.
* I went with the Butter Chicken, it is basically Tandori chicken with a rich tomato gravy... excellent, but not as good as my moms... You must try the Naan, which is flat bread, made inside a clay oven, not something you can make at home. Also next time check out the indian store next-door, I got there a bit early, so rented two movies, excellent selection, only $1 per movie. The food was pretty good, but I would still recommend the lunch buffet, that way you are not stuck with just one selection.
* Great food. It's so different - it's hard to describe (nothing to compare it to). I was blown away by the rice pudding. I thought "Eh! Rice pudding? - kinda boring." I was really surprised. Not only was it the best rice pudding I ever had - I didn't even know I liked rice pudding. You have to try it to see what I mean. The naan is really, really good. Those crackers... not sure what they're called - excellent with the (green salsa?). That green stuff was SO fresh! It tasted like something someone would've made from fresh vegetables from their garden in July. Amazing! I just wish I knew what this stuff was called. It's definitely worth learning. |
